Cinderella (Disney Princess) (Anglais) Relié – 23 août 2005
Author: RH Disney ID: 0736423621

The most beloved princess movie of all time⠠Disney’s Cinderella⠠is retold in the classic Little Golden Book format. It’s perfect for Disney Princess fans ages 2-5, and available just in time for the movie’s Diamond Edition DVD and Blu-ray release in fall 2012.
Done.

a good book for 1st grade !

George’s Marvellous Medicine (Anglais) Broché – 4 avril 2013

⠠A magic medicine it shall be!⠠George sat himself down at the table in the kitchen. He was shaking a little. Oh, how he hated Grandma! He really hated that horrid old witchy woman. And all of a sudden he had a tremendous urge to do something about her. Something whopping. Something absolutely terrific. A real shocker. A sort of explosion.⠠I⠠m not going to be frightened by her,⠠ he said softly to himself. But he was frightened. And that⠠s why he wanted suddenly to explode her away.Well⠦not quite away. But he did want to shake the old woman up a bit.Very well, then. What should it be, this whopping terrific exploding shocker for Grandma? As George sat there pondering this interesting problem, his eye fell upon the bottle of Grandma⠠s brown medicine standing on the sideboard. Rotten stuff it seemed to be⠦and it didn⠠t do her the slightest bit of good. She was always just as horrid after she⠠d had it as she⠠d been before.So-ho! thought George suddenly. I shall make her a new medicine, one that is so strong and so fierce and so fantastic it will either cure her completely or blow off the top of her head.⠠Here we go, then!⠠ cried George, jumping up from the table. ⠠A magic medicine it shall be!⠠Puffin Books by Roald DahlThe BFGBoy: Tales of ChildhoodCharlie and the Chocolate FactoryCharlie and the Great Glass ElevatorDanny the Champion of the WorldDirty BeastsThe Enormous CrocodileEsio TrotFantastic Mr. FoxGeorge⠠s Marvelous MedicineThe Giraffe and the Pelly and MeGoing SoloJames and the Giant PeachThe Magic FingerMatildaThe MinpinsRoald Dahl⠠s Revolting RhymesThe TwitsThe Vicar of NibbleswickeThe WitchesThe Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six MoreRoald DahlGeorge⠠s MarvelousMedicineillustrated by Quentin BlakePUFFIN BOOKSGrandma⠠I⠠m going shopping in the village,⠠ George⠠s mother said to George on Saturday morning. ⠠So be a good boy and don⠠t get into mischief.⠠This was a silly thing to say to a small boy at any time. It immediately made him wonder what sort of mischief he might get into.⠠And don⠠t forget to give Grandma her medicine at eleven o⠠clock,⠠ the mother said. Then out she went, closing the back door behind her.Grandma, who was dozing in her chair by the window, opened one wicked little eye and said, ⠠Now you heard what your mother said, George. Don⠠t forget my medicine.⠠⠠No, Grandma,⠠ George said.⠠And just try to behave yourself for once while she⠠s away.⠠⠠Yes, Grandma,⠠ George said.George was bored to tears. He didn⠠t have a brother or a sister. His father was a farmer, and the farm they lived on was miles away from anywhere, so there were never any children to play with. He was tired of staring at pigs and hens and cows and sheep. He was especially tired of having to live in the same house as that grizzly old grunion of a grandma. Looking after her all by himself was hardly the most exciting way to spend a Saturday morning.⠠You can make me a nice cup of tea for a start,⠠ Grandma said to George. ⠠That⠠ll keep you out of mischief for a few minutes.⠠⠠Yes, Grandma,⠠ George said.George couldn⠠t help disliking Grandma. She was a selfish grumpy old woman. She had pale brown teeth and a small puckered-up mouth like a dog⠠s bottom.⠠How much sugar in your tea today, Grandma?⠠ George asked her.⠠One spoonful,⠠ she said. ⠠And no milk.⠠Most grandmothers are lovely, kind, helpful old ladies, but not this one. She spent all day and every day sitting in her chair by the window, and she was always complaining, grousing, grouching, grumbling, griping about something or other. Never once, even on her best days, had she smiled at George and said, ⠠Well, how are you this morning, George?⠠ or, ⠠Why don⠠t you and I have a game of Snakes and Ladders?⠠ or, ⠠How was school today?⠠ She didn⠠t seem to care about other people, only about herself. She was a miserable old grouch.George went into the kitchen and made Grandma a cup of tea with a teabag. He put one spoon of sugar in it and no milk. He stirred the sugar well and carried the cup into the living room.Grandma sipped the tea. ⠠It⠠s not sweet enough,⠠ she said. ⠠Put more sugar in.⠠George took the cup back to the kitchen and added another spoonful of sugar. He stirred it again and carried it carefully in to Grandma.⠠Where⠠s the saucer?⠠ she said. ⠠I won⠠t have a cup without a saucer.⠠George fetched her a saucer.

I read all the Roald Dahl books when I was a kid and I loved them. Now, I’m really happy I can start sharing them with my daughter (5). This is the first one we have read together. She enjoyed it, although we couldn’t read it at night before going to sleep, because she was afraid of the nasty grandmother ;-)The illustrations are fabulous. I would say age 5 is the earliest to start reading it to children, but if they are used to a lot of reading (like mine is), it’s fine.

See what happens to George’s grandma when she takes some of George’s medecine ! Excellent Roald Dahl book – as usual!

The London Eye Mystery Broché – 26 mai 2009

The London Eye Mystery (Anglais) Broché – 26 mai 2009
Author: Consulter la page Siobhan Dowd d’ ID: 0385751842

Done.
Good young adult and middle grade mysteries are sometimes hard to come by. THE LONDON EYE MYSTERY by Siobhan Dowd is one you won’t want to miss.

It all starts when Ted’s cousin, Salim, comes to visit. Salim and his mother are about to move to New York City and have planned a family visit in London before their departure. Of course, what is a visit to London without a ride on the London Eye? That’s when the trouble begins.

Ted and his older sister, Kat, haven’t seen much of their cousin in the past. The visit starts out on a wrong note because of the unusual sleeping arrangements required by their tiny house. Kat is unhappy about bunking on the couch, and Ted is unhappy with the disruption of his whole routine. As Ted explains, he suffers from a "syndrome," which he defines by stating that his brain runs on "a different operating system" than everyone else. His judgment of other people’s emotional responses is a bit off, and his views of the world around him tend to be quite literal. (I’m guessing that he suffers from some form of autism.)

Salim turns out to be quite a pleasant visitor. His only request is to take a ride on the London Eye, a massive ferris wheel attraction in the center of London. When the cousins and their mothers arrive at the Eye, they find the ticket line and actual ride line disappointingly long. Relief comes when a stranger offers one ticket, free of charge, to Salim. Ted and Kat eagerly accept the ticket and pocket the original ticket money from their mother as they rush Salim to the waiting ride.

The mystery begins when Salim doesn’t disembark from the London Eye at the conclusion of his ride. Ted and Kat have as many as nine different theories. Was he kidnapped? Did he actually go on the ride at all?

Breaking Dawn Broché – 17 août 2010 Download PDF

Breaking Dawn (Anglais) Broché – 17 août 2010

Praise for TWILIGHT:A New York Times Editor’s ChoiceA Publishers Weekly Best Book of the YearAn Best Book of the DecadeAn American Library Association Top Ten Best Books for Young Adults
Twilight tempted the imagination . . . New Moon made readers thirsty for more . . . Eclipse turned the saga into a worldwide phenomenon . . . And now – the book that everyone has been waiting for . . . Breaking Dawn. In the much anticipated fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s love story, questions will be answered and the fate of Bella and Edward will be revealed.
Done.

….For those who are new to the story of Bella and Edward, there might be spoilers in the following review….

When I see Breaking Dawn in the children’s section of some bookstores, I can’t help but think it is out of place, because of the subjects it deals with… However, don’t let me misunterstood, this book is excellent, I really loved reading it, and I think that the twists and answers there are so surprising that the author is a genius in her own way… However, Breaking Dawn is far less innocent than the first three books… Needless to say, we really have our share of blood, particularly in the first part of the book, where Bella’s predicament is described in such graphic, unbearable details that the whole scene can easily make us shudder, or even feel sick… We really are closer to horror than fairy tales here, and after having identified with Bella so much during the first three books of the saga, we really mourn her after she has to be turned into a vampire to escape death. Of course, we knew that she was going to be a vampire – after all, Alice saw her as such in New Moon, but once she is a vampire, the magic operated by the story changes… Being a vampire is so easy for Bella that the reader identifies far less with her and becomes a mere spectator of a world that he / she doesn’t really comprehend… So of course, we really appreciate seeing how vampires live from the inside, but we are less emotionnally involved insofar as the relationhsip between Edward and Bella becomes less complicated, more normal, and, ironically, more human. Apart from that, there are some surprising aspects to the story… At some point, Jacob becomes the narrator instead of Bella, who is suffering so much that she can’t tell the story anymore.
